Retreat Resources: Books

In the next couple of weeks I’d like to offer highly personalized lists of my favorite books, videos, music, and recipes for retreats or just snatches of relaxation time. I’d love to have your suggestions as well! Since I’m a reading addict, I’ll start with books:

Retreat information
Louden, Jennifer. Woman’s Retreat Book
Harris, Rachel. 20-Minute Retreats

Retreat journals
Anderson, Joan. A Year by the Sea.
Lindbergh, Anne. Gift from the Sea
Sarton, May. Journal of a Solitude
Swan, Laura. The Forgotten Desert Mothers
Thoreau, Henry David. Walden

Personal analysis
Burns, David. Feeling Good
Jeffers, Susan. Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway
Sher, Barbara. Wishcraft,  I Could Do Anything If I Only Knew What It Was

Albert, Susan Wittig. Writing from Life
Cameron, Julia. The Artist’s Way;  The Right to Write
Goldberg, Natalie. Writing Down the Bones
Hemley, Robin. Turning Life Into Fiction
Lamott, Anne. Bird by Bird

Boorstein, Sylvia. Don’t Just Do Something, Sit There;   It’s Easier Than You Think: The Buddhist Way to Happiness; Happiness is an Inside Job
Breathnach, Sarah Ban. Simple Abundance
Chodron, Pema. Start Where You Are;  When Things Fall Apart
Hoff, Benjamin. The Tao of Pooh
Kabat-Zinn, Jon. Wherever You Go, There You Are
Kornfield, Jack. A Path with Heart;  Meditation for Beginners
L’Engle, Madeleine. A Circle of QuietGlimpses of Grace: Daily Thoughts and Reflections;  The Ordering of Love: The New and Collected Poems of Madeleine L’Engle
Shaffer, Nancy. Instructions in Joy: Meditations
Woolf, Virginia. A Room of One’s Own.

Northrup, Christiane, M.D. Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom

One useful source of inspirational reading is the Unitarian Universalist Association bookstore, Since Unitarian-Universalists seek wisdom from all world faiths, this bookstore stocks an eclectic interfaith collection of books: meditation, prayer, poetry, essays, theology, and spirituality.  I’m glad I don’t have one-click access here; I have enough trouble containing myself on Amazon.

Again, this list is just a sample–I’d love to hear your suggestions for books that have inspired, calmed, or healed you, or perhaps those which never fail to make you laugh.
